What it is
Newarke Houses is two Tudor houses that are now a social history and regimental museum. There are toys from the 1500s to now, a First World War trench, and a 1950s street with shops and a pub. Outside there are public gardens with English Civil War walls. Entry is free, except on event days. It is open on Saturdays from May to August, 11am to 4.30pm. It also opens on Wednesdays in the Leicester City school holidays: 27 May, 15, 22 and 29 July, and 5, 12 and 19 August 2026. It then opens on 17 and 21 October 2026 for October half term, and on 27 March and 3 April 2027 for Easter. It also opens for special events. The museum is on The Newarke, in the middle of the De Montfort University campus.
